2013 Minnesota Inventors Congress – Awards

Announcing this year’s F. Robert Starr Award recipient! Former Minnesota legislator, Douglas E. Reuter of Corinth, Texas, graciously accepted the grand prize award at tonight’s awards banquet for his new board game, QB8™.

QB8 is another exciting and challenging game from Reuter, the inventor of the game Sequence™. In his acceptance speech, Reuter spoke of test marketing his game. He tested three times as many people as he did with Sequence, which actually had a 15% rejection rate, whereas QB8 was not rejected by any testers. This is the first public launch of the product.

Reuter announced during his acceptance speech that he met with the CEO of Games by James yesterday, who purchased Reuter’s game for sale in stores. Watch for this exciting game in Games by James this fall!

Mr. Reuter’s first game, Sequence, sold over 10 million games. He is very excited to be launching QB8 at the Minnesota Inventors Congress’ 56th annual invention expo.

2012 highlights: Held June 8 & 9th Inventors from across the Midwest and Hawaii traveled to Redwood Falls to showcase their inventions at the 55th Annual invention show held in Redwood Falls MN. The F. Robert Starr Award was presented to  The Skydrill.  “This is a revolutionary patent pending tool that quickly, safely and ergonomically installs fasteners to concrete ceilings and screws into drywall ceilings. The tool has the potential to be a game changer on how work is done in the industry,”  according to the tools inventors,  David Buchner and Reed Felton, of Wauwatosa, WI.

Since 1958 the MIC has hosted an invention show in Redwood Falls, MN, now called the Invention & Idea Show. This event offers inventors an opportunity to test market their inventions, to network with other inventors and to talk to patent attorneys and consultants who are experts in the product development process . We also host Inventing Success™ Workshops. Inventors set up in a traditional trade show booth and the public is invited to see the latest products and help the inventor determine if there is a market for their products.

Since 1986, we have also hosted the annual Minnesota Student Inventors Congress during the annual invention show, where students from across the state of MN exhibit their inventions. The students participate in a program in their schools and are taught the process of developing creative and critical thinking skills. They are asked to solve a problem and then compete in local and regional events. Students are selected from those events who are given the opportunity to display their ideas on the show floor with our other exhibitors.
