Have you invented the next PedEgg?  Lint Lizard?  Sticky Buddy?

Then, now is the time to apply for a spot at the June 6, 2012 TeleBrands/Minnesota Inventors Congress Inventors Day to be held at the Hyatt Regency, in Minneapolis.

Inventors interested in having 5 minutes to pitch to TeleBrands CEO/Founder AJ Khubani and a panel of judges to consider marketing their consumer infomercial product should send an email to BigIdeas@TeleBrands.com noting “Minnesota” in the subject line.

Each application should include:

Inventor name
City, State
Cell phone number
Email
Name of product
Short description of product
Website of product (if one exists)

Please do not include attachments.

While hundreds will apply, only 25 will be selected. 

Who knows?  You might have the next “As Seen on TV” success story.

Deadline for applications:  May 29, 2012.
Only inventors who are selected will be notified by email by June 1, 2012.

NOTE:  Applications are reviewed as they are submitted which means that some inventors will hear earlier than others.

Please do your homework.  Every applicant should be familiar with the “As Seen on TV” category and the types of products that sell in this format. 

If selected, each inventor will have 5 minutes via a countdown clock to present the consumer product.  Please remember to use that time wisely.  TeleBrands sells products via 2-minute infomercials; therefore, the inventor should know the audience and the ways that the product solves a common-everyday problem, reaches a mass audience and has a “WOW” demonstration.

Selected inventors will receive notification that they have been chosen.  This event is not open to the public.  Walk-ins will NOT be accepted.  If you are selected, you must be able to be in Minneapolis on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 from approximately 8:30am until approximately 3:00pm.

For those of you who don’t know, the Minnesota Inventors Congress is one of the oldest and most established inventor trade shows in the country. And I have to say, I learned more from the inventors who attended MIC then I ever thought possible. It was so inspiring that I felt compelled to write this article and share.

If you’ve ever been to MIC, you will know that this show has been around for more than 50 years and that it’s held in a small town called Redwood Falls. This was my first event there, so I had no idea what to expect. But I was completely inspired by how many people travelled from all over the country for this event and how many amazing inventions were being showcased.

But here’s what impressed me the most about the inventors at MIC and why I felt compelled to write. They were all committed to helping one another succeed and the sense of community overwhelmed me. I’m not sure if it’s because MIC was held in a small town or what, but it made me think about how important it is for inventors to find their own inventor community.

The truth is that being an inventor can be a lonely and overwhelming experience. Inventors are typically the creative types, the innovators, the out-of-the-box thinkers, etc. And unfortunately, being creative, unique or different can actually be downright exhausting. Why? Because nobody ever understands why you do what you do!

And that is what impressed me most about MIC. Being an inventor was actually the norm for this little town. People were consistently sharing stories of how their children and their grandchildren were inventing products. In other words, it was actually cool to be an inventor in Redwood Falls…you gotta love it!

So what’s my point? I absolutely think it is essential to your success that you find other like-minded individuals to help you grow. It’s the best way I know to help you win as an inventor. Find a local inventors group in your area, become a member of a trade association related to your product, join a group of inventors online…just do something!

This has helped me tremendously in my own life. I will never forget the first time I went to the local inventors group in my area. I was blown away because for the first time I felt like I met people who were just like me. Kindred spirits! It was so wonderful and truly helped me grow in my own business because people actually understood what I was talking about!

So the bottom line is this- the inventors at the Minnesota Inventors Congress taught me that getting support and surrounding yourself with a community of like-minded individuals is the best way to win. And who knows…maybe you can help develop your inventors group to the point that being an inventor is actually a norm in your town…woohoo! :-)
